Room Makeovers for $50 or Less:

Need a quick makeover project before holiday guests arrive, or trying to find an excuse not to go to the mall? Try one or more of these mini projects.

Color guide: pantone colours

Even if you have never had the crafting bug or do not consider yourself a DIY-er, spending a few hours and dollars can result in a noticeable mini makeover for a room. Need a quick makeover project before holiday guests arrive, or trying to find an excuse not to go to the mall? Try one or more of these mini projects.

Paint. You will be amazed at the difference one can of paint can make in a room. Try painting an accent wall, a ceiling, an entire room for a fresh new look. Feeling noncommittal about a new color? Then maybe paint a piece of furniture instead. Not sure which color to choose or want the newest trend for 2015? Consider advice from the experts at HGTV , Benjamin Moore, and Apartment Therapy.

House numbers. If your house numbers are faded, hanging sideways or otherwise hard to read, it is time for a mini makeover. Replace or repair your house numbers for a fresh look, and to be sure your guests find your door instead of your neighbors.

Rearrange bookshelves. Turn your bookshelves into more than simply book holders. Use them to display a favorite collection or create a mini gallery for photos or children’s artwork. With the paint left over from your new accent wall you can paint the inside of the bookcase, or line it with wallpaper or fabric for a more dramatic effect. Mixing your favorite books with your favorite things creates a display that is truly Y-O-U.

Lights on. Did you know that a dusty light bulb emits considerably less light? After you take a few minutes to dust and change out light bulbs as needed, consider switching out a couple of lamp shades for a new look. Add a new lamp or stronger bulb to help brighten an area that seems stuck in the dark.

New faucet or cabinet hardware. Tired of listening to that drippy faucet or looking at that worn drawer pull? Switch out the faucet or upgrade your cabinet hardware in the kitchen or bath. You will be amazed how fixing those annoying little things can make such a big difference.

Declutter and deep clean. Whether tackling a junk drawer, the hall closet, the guest room or your entire home, you will be amazed at the difference decluttering and deep cleaning can make. Be sure to allow yourself enough time to complete your project, to avoid ending up with a bigger mess than when you started.
